Interviewing with HelloTech — What to Expect

So you’re interested in joining HelloTech in Berlin? That’s great news!

I work with the Technical Talent Acquisition team and would like to give you an idea on what to expect during our interview process. Whether you applied online or were reached out to directly by a recruiter, we’ve created a standardised interview process to understand your experience and motivation. While some processes may slightly differ, here is a list of what you should expect!

We’ve embedded HelloFresh’s DNA into every step throughout our recruitment and hiring process, and it will be good to keep it in mind. Introduction to HelloFresh

Starting with reviewing your resume, the first step in the process for our technical roles will be to meet with someone from our tech recruitment team. This is an introductory conversation mainly to understand your experience and motivation. We’ve already reviewed your CV, so don’t feel the need to tell us everything you’ve done in your 5+ years of experience!

The recruiters and technical teams have created specially crafted questions for each role, so you can expect a slight deep dive into your background. We’re also interested in learning what are your expectations for your next role, to make sure we’re aligned.

Quick tip: This is a great time to discuss overall HelloFresh’s team structure, more about the role, and anything regarding relocation, benefits, etc.

Tests

After a successful introduction interview, we have created different tests for each position. We value this step as it helps us understand your work and practical knowledge in action! Whether it is a take-home challenge or online coding challenge, our hiring teams have sat together to create targeted tests which allow you to work closely with some of the opportunities and challenges we’ve had in the past. Someone from our technical team will then review your test and give you feedback on a solution.

Technical Interview

Upon successful completion of the test, the next step is a one-hour technical interview with senior colleagues of our team! Traditionally this conversation is to discuss your test and in-depth technical experience. Our interviewers will use this time to gain a better understanding of your solution, like why you chose this design pattern or coding structure, so it is always good to reevaluate your solutions to help you prepare.

Quick tip: This is a great time to discuss more in-depth technical insights; like current challenges, tech stack, and opportunities within each role.

Final Interview:

Congratulations, you’ve made it to the final step! This is now the opportunity to meet someone from the senior leadership team within HelloFresh. For the majority of our final interviews, we involve our CTO, Chief of Staff, VPs and Directors on our team to discuss higher level, strategic insights. Everything from architectural discussions, best practices, and managing stakeholders.

After the final interview, our entire hiring team will discuss the opportunity for you to join us. Generally final feedback can take up to 2 days, but we’ll always keep you updated throughout the process.

Here are some quick tips and links to help you prepare for the hiring process:

  • The hiring process is a two-way street: make sure to ask as many questions you have to the team, to get a good idea of how we work!
  • We generally use Google Meet as a meeting platform — so please be sure to have strong internet connectivity in a quiet environment. We always recommend that you test your camera and microphone prior to joining your interview to ensure everything is working well!
  • We allow around 10–15 minutes each interview for your questions, make sure to prepare questions that you find valuable
